Sustainability as a strategy to grow on foreign markets
Environmental sustainability has always been a successful value, acknowledged by our customers, since we started to sell our products on foreign markets”, Marina Brizzolari declares, Marketing manager at Brizzolari.
Brizzolari is a ribbon manufacturer leading the market for over 60 years. The company is composed by more than 100 employees who commit themselves with passion to produce the high-quality ribbons sold in the whole world. The company, which has always been attentive to sustainability, chose a 100% renewable energy supply certified by ForGreen and EKOenergy. Here following it is possible to read the interview to Marina Brizzolari, Marketing manager, where she explains how sustainability became a strategic lever to develop the company.
Why did your company choose to consume renewable electricity?
Environmental sustainability has always been a value in line with the company’s philosophy. This is demonstrated by our investment in a PV power plant installed at Brizzolari’s headquarters, a technology that helped us to avoid around 180.000 kg of CO2 every year. All the energy produced by the plant is consumed by the company, and we decided to integrate our energy needs with the supply of renewable electricity certified by ForGreen.
Do you think that the choice of consuming clean energy could entail commercial benefits?
I think this is the case for our products sold abroad: the European market is increasingly concerned about sustainability issues and foreign multinationals acknowledge the added value of suppliers and clients with a demonstrated care for the environment.
Today the company sells 60-70% of the products in Italy and 30-40% abroad, but we are planning to grow considerably on foreign markets. I believe that betting on environmental sustainability and showing to our clients that we are concretely addressing environmental issues (with action such as the consumption of renewable energy or the creation of recycled products) could be an important asset of development on foreign markets.
Do you remark any difference in the perception of sustainability’s problems in Italy and abroad?
The environmental problem is certainly less considered in Italy, while abroad, as I have already mentioned, environmental issues are more and more taken into consideration. For instance, we launched a new product line called “ecoBriRex”, realized with 100% recycled paper, polypropylene ribbons made with recycled row material coming from the internal production and painted with water-based colours. This line received more appreciation abroad than in Italy.
